Jon probably didn’t expect his first day of work at Swan to involve an epic quest for lunch.

Although his journey to his new role as a Business Development Manager at Swan has been a unique one.

In college, Jon was an English major and the goalie of the Indiana State University soccer team. He left to find a job, and soon found himself working the third shift as a baker in Broadripple. After several years baking artisan bread and sweets, Jon decided to return to college to finish his degree.

Jon then worked in account management for a wide variety of businesses. Years later, he began a new role in sales and fell in love with the job.

When he spotted a posting for a sales and business analysis role at Swan Software Solutions, he applied. When asked why he was excited by the opportunity to join the Swan team, Jon stated, “I think because of the success that Swan has had over the last 20 years. The growth that Swan has had. It is interesting to be able to work on a variety of diverse projects. To work with a close knit group here in Carmel and continue to grow the business.”

He shared more about why he appreciated the culture at Swan. “The people are great, supportive, and a close-knit group. Alex and Shannon have said it is a family, and it is treated that way.”

When asked what his proudest accomplishment is, Jon had a ready reply. “My children. I have two kids. A son and a daughter.” He passed down his love of soccer to his kids and spent a lot of time traveling to games with his kids who were avid soccer players. He also shared how proud he was of going back to college to finish his degree as a non-traditional student.

Jon’s love of soccer doesn’t end with playing it. He also is a fan of watching it and has rooted for the Italian team, Juventus, for decades. While his Italian blood might have influenced him a little, it was primarily his admiration for the goalie GiGi Buffon who inspired him to become a fan of the team.

Soccer might be his favorite sport, but Jon also enjoys cheering on the Colts and Pacers.

Although he wasn’t born in Indiana, Jon moved here in high school. He’s been a resident of Carmel for twenty years. While he hasn’t traveled as much as he would like, he and his wife are excited for an upcoming trip to celebrate their twentieth anniversary.

Jon’s a big fan of pets, and he has volunteered at the Humane Society. He’s hoping to find some more time to return to helping animals in need. For now, he spends a lot of time with his dog, Fitzgerald, a Goldendoodle who thinks he is a lap dog.

Jon is also a huge fan of Phish. He’s attended over one hundred of their performances. Attending that many concerts has required some travel, including trips to New York, Florida, and Colorado. Perhaps his love for Phish is what inspires him in his hope of one day finding time to learn the acoustic guitar.

For now, Jon is motivated to do his best work by “holding myself to a high standard and feeling that I want to be a top contributor to the team.”

As for a productivity hack Jon wanted to share? He is a list maker. “I make a list and force myself to just start doing it and checking it off. It gives me a great sense of accomplishment when I check off the final item.”

We’re happy to welcome Jon to the team at Swan Software Solutions. We hope he accomplishes his five-year goal of “hopefully growing and thriving at Swan Software Solutions. Growing the business and relationships internally and externally.”

As for why Jon’s arrival lunch required an epic quest?

With his welcome-to-the-team lunch scheduled, a snowstorm had other plans. Multiple restaurants had made the decision to close down for the day, so finding a place to celebrate his joining the team became a search for somewhere–anywhere–that was open. Thankfully, the team finally found a place to celebrate Jon’s arrival, and the event will make an interesting story.

Welcome to the team, Jon!
