As tomorrow is St. Patrick’s Day, most of us are probably thinking of Ireland, leprechauns, and pots of gold. Perhaps you’re wearing green. Maybe you have soda bread in the oven. However, you choose to celebrate (or not), most of us can name several things that are quintessentially Irish.
For those fortunate enough to visit the Emerald Isle, one can probably list several places they want to see. Some of the 30,000 castles it is estimated are in the country, a pub, or simply a stroll through the countryside. One of the most popular stops would probably be the tradition of kissing the Blarney Stone.
Kissing the Blarney Stone
Many legends exist about the origin of the Blarney Stone AKA the Stone of Eloquence, but one thing is constant–giving this rock a smooch supposedly will give one the gift of gab or persuasive speech. Stories of those who have locked lip with the stone and then succeeded in talking their way out of trouble abound.
Originally, kissing the stone involved being suspended by one’s ankles, but iron railings have made it easier and safer. Considering the stone is 85 feet in the air, this option to improve one’s speaking ability is not a good choice for anyone who suffers from a fear of heights.
Indeed, kissing the Blarney Stone might not be in many people’s capabilities. The good news for anyone who wants to improve their speaking skills without heading to Ireland is many apps will empower one to speak better.
A Tech Version of the Stone of Eloquence
Anyone who struggles with “uh,” “um,” “like,” or “so,” can find help. An app will point out how many times they use the filler words.
Perhaps the struggle is the pitch or volume. An app will measure one’s speech patterns and give advice on improvement. Maybe one talks too fast or too slow. Applications exist to time each part of the speech or calm one with relaxation techniques before one takes the stage. With upwards of 70% of the population scared of public speaking, this app might be the most useful of all.
Maybe you have an idea for an app to improve one’s ability to speak in public–or some other amazing idea. Swan Software Solutions can help make it a reality.
